Do Not be in Haste, Take your time to understand the Qur´an
One should not make hurry in reading/understanding the Quran just for the sake of completing it. Every one needs their own time to understang it. Some may take less time ,some may take more time. Some may require to go through different translations. Some may grasp the meaning by reading few translations. We have to go back wards in time to understand the Quran the way the sahaba’s had understood it.
So, in this context we should constantly pray to Allah to increase our knowledge. Let us ponder over few Ayats of Quran on similar contexts.
Allah says in Surah Ta-Ha 20: Ayat 114
“High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur´an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, “O my Lord! advance me in knowledge.”
Note: As per Tafsir of Ibn Kaseer, this Ayat is addressed to Muhammad (SAW) in Quran. But there is also a general learning out of it as well.
Surah Nisa 4: Ayat 171
“O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion.”
How Muslims are Ignoring the Quran
Coming back to the 30th Ayat of 25th Surah Al-Furqan wherein Allah says
“Then the Messenger will say: “O my Lord! Truly my people took this Quran for just foolish nonsense.”
Scholars say that to ignore Qur’an is not getting involved in any of these:
■ Believe in it
■ Read it
■ Understand it
■ Ponder its Ayats
■ Act upon it
■ Spread it
Everything around us in this universe is a creation of Allah except the Qur’an. It is the attribute of Allah, It contains the words of Allah. Fortunately, Quran is the most widely read book throughout amongst Muslims, Quran is most widely memorized book too. But sadly enough, it is the only book which is so widely read without understanding THAT TOO BY THOSE WHO
CLAIM THEIR BELIEF IN IT. No Muslim denies the importance of understanding Quran yet at the same time does almost nothing serious to understand it.
In every Rak’ah of Salat we recite the 1st Surah Al Fatiha of the Quran and in the 6th Ayat of Surah Al Fatiha we recite: “Show us the straightway” and in the 2nd Surah AL Baqarah just after the Surah Al Fatiha it is clearly mentioned that the right path is there in Quran.
Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2) Ayat 2
“This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah;”
The issue is Allah has sent Quran for Guidance. We make Du’a in Salat for guidance but in practice we recite the Quran without understanding for rewards (Sawab), we ignore the most primary part to understand it and to derive guidance from it. Further, it is said that certain obligations are Fardh (Mandatory) in Islam. Now it is for us to realize whether it is Fardh to read and understand the only source to identify those obligations or not. At least for those who have the capability to do so.
Allah says in Surah Al-Qasas (28) Ayat 85
“Verily He Who ordained the Qur´an for thee, will bring thee back to the Place of Return. Say: “My Lord knows best who it is that brings true guidance, and who is in manifest error.”
(As per Tafseer of Ibn Kaseer, this Ayat is addressed to Muhammad (SAW) in Quran. But there is a learning in it for us as well)
Allah says in Surah Al-An’am 6: Ayat 153
“Verily, this is My way, leading straight: follow it: follow not (other) paths: they will scatter you about from His (great) path: thus doth He command you. that ye may be righteous.
Note: If we will not understand then what we are going to follow.
Allah says in Surah Al-An’am 6: Ayat 155
“And this is a Book which We have revealed as a blessing: so follow it and be righteous, that ye may receive mercy:”
Note: If we do not understand what we are going to follow.
We should remember that there are always efforts to keep one away from Quran, it is done earlier and is done now also. But Allah is the best planner.
Let us ponder over few Ayats of Quran on similar contexts.
Allah says in Surah Fussilat 41: Ayat 26
“The Unbelievers say: “Listen not to this Qur´an but talk at random in the midst of its (reading), that ye may gain the upper hand !”
Allah says in Surah Al Imran 3: Ayat 54
“And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah.”
Allah says in Surah Al-Isra 17: Ayat 41
“We have explained (things) in various (ways) in this Qur´an, in order that they may receive admonition, but it only increases their flight (from the Truth)!”
