Allah says in Surah Al-Furqan 25: Ayat 30
“Then the Messenger will say: “O my Lord! Truly my people took this Quran for just foolish nonsense.”
Allah says in Surah Muhammad 47: Ayat 24
“Do they not then earnestly seek to understand the Qur´an, or are their hearts locked up by them?”
As a Muslim when it comes to understand and follow Islam, generally we practice it casually wherein few selected rituals are culturally followed. We do as our parents do, as our relatives, as our neighbour or our community do and that is the extent of our understanding of Islam. Of course, sometimes we even pick up few additional self-selected rituals as per our suitability to enhance our obligation towards Allah. But to fulfil the ritualistic obligation to whatever degree we can manage is not the spirit of Islam. We are in fact following miniscule Islam. We must save ourselves from this cultural trap.
As Muslims, we must set our priority, this is something very important. Priority to know
- What is Islam?
- Why we are here?
- Who brought us here and who is the owner of this existence?
- Where are we heading towards and what is our destination?
- And finally, the most important of all, what is the primary source to know all of these? And if we miss the most important source of this knowledge from where it is to be gathered then there is a serious problem.
In fact, Allah has mentioned about all of this in the Quran to mankind, which is the last message from Allah through his last Prophet Muhammad (SAW). So, it is a responsibility of every capable Muslim to make sincere effort to understand Quran. Of course, one has to refer authentic Hadith and detailed explanation (Tafsir) as well for in-depth understanding. In the Quran itself, Allah has categorically asked the mankind to understand his message (the Quran). Let us ponder over the following Ayats of the Quran.
Allah says in Surah Al-Anbiya 21: Ayat 10
“We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message or you: will ye not then understand?”
Allah says in Surah Ar-Rad 13: Ayat1
“A.L.M.R. These are the signs (or verses) of the Book: that which hath been revealed unto thee from thy Lord is the Truth; but most men believe not.”
Allah says in Surah Az-Zukhruf 43: Ayat 44
“The (Qur´an) is indeed the message, for thee and for thy people; and soon shall ye (all) be brought to account”.
Allah says in Surah Muhammad 47: Ayat 24
“Do they not then earnestly seek to understand the Qur´an, or are their hearts locked up by them?
